Little Pine · 3–6 years

Seed Scientists

What happens when we put a tiny seed into the soil? 🌱 In this hands-on STEM and nature class, our Little Pine scientists investigate what seeds need to grow. Children will examine different types of seeds, plant their own seed and discover the importance of water, light and care. Before seeing what happens, children will make their own simple prediction. Over time, they can observe their seed and look for exciting changes as it begins to grow.

What parents should know

This class focuses on the process of discovery, rather than simply teaching children the answer. Children are encouraged to ask questions, make their own predictions and observe what happens. Their prediction doesn't need to be correct. Making a guess and discovering the result is an important part of early scientific thinking. The activity involves soil and water, so clothes that can get a little messy are recommended. If children take their planted seed home, parents can continue the experiment by helping them water it and observe its growth.
