About

Children learn by doing.

Wonder Kids Bali runs classes at Pinewood Cafe in Canggu for families who want more than a drop-off activity. We combine Montessori principles with STEM, nature, and project-based making.

The journey is simple: Explore in the first year, Discover from two to five, and Create from five to ten. Children explore, question, experiment, and make things that matter to them.

How we teach

Montessori + STEM, made simple.

We combine two ideas that fit together beautifully: children learn by doing, and they understand the world by asking questions and trying things out.

Montessori

Follow the child

Montessori starts with respect. Children are capable. They want to use real tools, move freely, and concentrate on work that feels important to them.

  • Children learn through their hands, senses, and real work — pouring, sorting, building, caring.
  • We prepare a calm space with beautiful materials, then follow the child’s curiosity.
  • Independence matters. A child who can try, repeat, and finish something grows confidence.
  • The adult is a guide, not a lecturer. We watch, invite, and step back when the child is concentrating.

STEM

Ask, try, notice

STEM is not a worksheet. It is a way of thinking: notice something, wonder why, try an idea, and look at what happened.

  • STEM means Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics — used as tools to understand the world.
  • Younger children predict, test, observe, and talk. Older children question, design, build, test, and improve.
  • A first try that “fails” is useful. We ask what to change, then try again.
  • Children do the experiment. They do not sit still and watch a demonstration.

How they work together

Montessori gives the how: a prepared space, real materials, time to concentrate, and a guide who follows the child. STEM gives the what: questions about water, weight, nature, machines, and making. Together, a class might look like play — because for children, play is how thinking happens.

Ages 2–5

Explore → Play → Discover → Understand

Example: sink or float. Children guess what will happen, put objects in water, watch, and talk about it. Nobody stands at the front and “shows” the answer.

Ages 5–10

Question → Design → Build → Test → Improve

Example: can you build a bridge that holds 2 kg with only the materials given? Teams sketch, build, test, and try a better idea.

What this looks like in class

Real materials

Wood, water, plants, simple tools, building kits. Children touch, pour, measure, and make a mess that means something.

Time to concentrate

We do not rush from activity to activity. When a child is absorbed, we protect that moment.

Talk that helps thinking

We ask “What do you notice?” and “What could we try next?” rather than giving the answer first.

The goal is not to produce tiny engineers overnight. It is to help children plan, solve problems, make decisions, and work independently — with curiosity intact.
